Commission a portrait
Initial discussions
I would love to discuss your ideas with you. My work is entirely bespoke and can be created to your specifications.
You can tell me who or what you would like me to draw and for whom. We can discuss your timings (if the picture is a gift, is it required by a specific date like a birthday?).
You can tell me the size you require (usually I work to A4 which could then be framed with a mount to A3 size but I’m happy to consider different sizes).
I work from photographs so you can email me the photo (or photos) you would like me to draw and I can advise you on which would be most suitable. As a general guide, I will need to work from a good quality image that is sharp enough to see detail. It can be a photo you’ve taken on your phone but do check it isn’t so grainy or blurred that if you zoom in, the lines wouldn’t be clear to draw.
Multiple and varied subjects
As a general rule, one person per picture looks fantastic. Adding extra faces is totally fine but I recommend using a photo where all the subjects are present. From a pricing perspective, I charge per face and by size, rather than per sheet of paper, so having two individual portraits will be a similar price to one portrait of two individuals. This is because the most complex part of the portrait is the face.
I am always delighted to draw any other subjects that are precious to you - partners, parents, pets, homes - I’ve even been commissioned to draw a beloved tree!
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to get in touch.
Prices and payment
My prices depend on the size, complexity and urgency of the work. To give you a sense of cost, I would charge from £360 for an A4 graphite portrait of a single child with a plain background. A more complex background would cost more.
Once the photo and price has been confirmed, I will ask you to pay a 50% non-refundable deposit before I commence the work. When the work is ready, I’ll send you an image and once final payment has been made, the work can be collected or posted to you.
Framing
I do not currently offer a framing service (though hope to do so soon) but may be able to recommend a framer or give you suggestions about the type of frame, mount and glass that would be suitable for the room you wish the hang the work in.
Sending the work to you
My studio is based in Oxford in the UK but as I work from photographs, I can send your art to you, wherever you are based (or to the gift recipient).
If you need your artwork sent anywhere just let me know and I can calculate the postage and packaging costs for you, depending on how you would like your art work sent.
Alternatively, you are welcome to collect the work from my Oxford studio.
